Envelope Garden

Vegetable and flower seed saved from a small backyard, one paper envelope at a time.

2026

  1. Germination tests on wet paper towels: what two-year-old seed can still do
  2. Winter inventory: the shoebox, the snap test and nine thousand lettuce seeds

2025

  1. The crossed squash: when last year’s saved seed grew a stranger
  2. Replanting the carrots I kept in a bucket of sand all winter

2024

  1. Fermenting tomato seed in a jam jar and the smell that came with it
  2. Starting with the easy ones: beans, peas and a paper bag of calendula
